The development of mammary gland takes place mostly after birth. During puberty, in a process called branching morphogenesis, mammary epithelium invades the surrounding stroma and a complex of branched ducts is formed. Vývoj mliečnej žľazy prebieha prevažne po narodení. V priebehu puberty, v procese zvanom vetviaca morfogenéza, epitel mliečnej žľazy prerastá okolitou strómou a formuje sa komplexná sieť vetviacich kanálikov. Tento proces je riadený epitelovo-stromálnymi interakciami, ktoré zahŕňajú množstvo signálnych molekúl a dráh.
