EXAMINING THE DEGREE OF ADAPTATION OF ADULT FOREIGNERS LIVING IN PRAGUE IN THE CZECH SOCIETY

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je popsat proces adaptace cizinců na život v Praze, s určením faktorů ovlivňujících míru jejich adaptace na život v České republice. V teoretické části je charakterizován status cizince, uvedena je legislativa upravující pobyt v České republice, detailněji je popsán proces adaptace cizinců na život v cizí zemi, včetně faktorů, které adaptaci ovlivňují. V empirické části je popsán realizovaný výzkum, jehož cílem bylo identifikovat hlavní faktory ovlivňující míru adaptace dospělých cizinců na život v Praze. Výběrový soubor tvořilo 12 respondentů, tj. cizinců žijících v Praze, s nimiž byly vedeny polostrukturované rozhovory. Data byla zpracována pomocí otevřeného kódování zakotvené teorie. Z výzkumu vyplynulo, že pro integraci dospělého cizince do české společnosti je klíčová znalost českého jazyka. Důležitá je též osobnost cizince a postoj většinové společnosti vůči cizincům.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to describe the process of adaptation of adult foreigners to life in Prague, identifying the factors influencing the degree of their adaptation to life in the Czech Republic. In the theoretical part, the status of foreigners is characterized, the legislation regulating the residence of foreigners in the Czech Republic is presented, the process of adaptation of foreigners to life in a foreign is described in detail, including the factors influencing the adaptation. The practical part describes the qualitative research conducted to identity the main factor influencing the degree of adaptation of adult foreigners to life in Prague. The sample consisted of 12 communication partners, i.e. foreigners living in Prague, with whom semi-structured were conducted. The data were processed using open coding grounded theory. The research revealed that knowledge of the Czech language is crucial for the integration of an adult foreigners into Czech society. The personality of the foreigner and the attitude of the majority society towards foreigners are also important.
