Comparison of teamwork in an organization and university setting from student’s perspective

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá srovnáním týmové práce studentů magisterského stupně studia Vysoké školy ekonomické v prostředí vysoké školy a organizace. Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat a provést srovnání týmové práce pro prostředí školy a organizace z pohledu studentů. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do tří částí. Teoretické, metodologické a praktické. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny základní pojmy související s pojmy pracovní tým, týmová práce. Dále je rozebrána týmová práce v rámci vysoké školy a provedeno její srovnání s týmovou prací v organizaci. Metodologická část práce popisuje cíle a předměty výzkumu. Jsou zde naznačeny výzkumné oblasti a otázky, použité metody sběru dat, charakteristika výzkumného souboru a analýza dat. Praktická část interpretuje výsledky výzkumů. První výzkum je kvalitativní, ve formě hloubkových rozhovorů, pomocí kterých jsou zjišťovány postoje k týmové práci respondentů ve škole a v organizaci a zároveň slouží k hlubšímu pochopení problematiky. Tento výzkum slouží jako pilotní studie pro výzkum následující. Druhý výzkum je kvantitativní, ve formě dotazníkového šetření. Dotazníkové šetření zjišťuje postoje studentů k týmové práci ve škole a v organizaci. Na interpretaci výsledků výzkumu navazuje diskuze a limity výsledků. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty výsledky realizovaného výzkumu. Z kvantitativního šetření bylo zjištěno, že preference týmové práce studentů ve škole a v organizaci se neliší. Výzkum ukázal, že studenti dávají přednost komunikaci z očí do očí při práci v týmu v organizaci více než při týmové práci ve škole. Dále bylo zjištěno, že studenti se považují při práci v týmu ve škole za méně aktivní než při týmové práci v organizaci. S vedoucí rolí v týmu se studenti ztotožňují stejně při týmové práci ve škole i v organizaci. Důležitost motivů pro týmovou práci se ve škole a v organizaci liší a vnímaná kritéria úspěšné týmové práce se z pohledu studentů pro obě zkoumaná prostředí liší.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis compares teamwork structure in the university and organization setting from the point of view of students enrolled in a master's degree program at the University of Economics. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze and compare teamwork in school and organization environment from students’ perspective. The thesis is divided into three parts: theoretical, methodological and practical. The theoretical part defines the basic terms related to the concepts of work team, teamwork. Additionally, there is an analysis of a teamwork within a university setting compared to a teamwork in an organization setting. The methodological part of the thesis describes objectives and subjects of the research. This part indicates research areas and questions, used methods of data collection, characteristics of the research set and data analysis. The practical part interprets results of the research. The first research is qualitative, in the form of in-depth interviews, through which respondents’ attitudes toward teamwork in school and organization settings are investigated. This research further serves to deepen understanding of the issues, and as a pilot study for the second research, which is quantitative, in the form of a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire survey identifies students' attitudes toward teamwork in school and organization setting. The interpretation of research results is followed by discussions and results limitations. The conclusion of the thesis summarizes results of the research. The results of the quantitative survey show that students do not have a preference when it comes to teamwork in school or organization setting. Students prefer a face-to-face communication when working in a team in an organization over a teamwork at school. Additionally, it was found that students consider themselves less active when working as a team in a school setting than as a team in an organization. In terms of teamwork leadership, students show equal interest in academic and business setting. The importance of motives for teamwork varies in school and organization setting, and also the perceived criteria for successful teamwork differ for the two examined environments from students' point of view.
