Fundamental and technical analysis of silver price development

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce má za cíl analyzovat vývoj tržní ceny stříbra a její vztah k jiným investičním instrumentům, stejně tak hodnocení vlivu dalších faktorů na pohyby ceny. První dvě části poskytují teoretický základ pro praktickou část práce. První část představuje historickou tržní cenu stříbra a vlivy fundamentálních faktorů. Druhá část popisuje metody použité ve vlastní analýze, využitelné pro predikci vývoje ceny. Třetí část zahrnuje především relace ceny stříbra s vybranými instrumenty pomocí korelační a kointegrační analýzy. Dále je charakterizován vliv makroekonomických zpráv a informací z COT reportu na cenu stříbra, a rovněž spojitost s teorií Contango a Normal Backwardation. Kompletní analýza je doplněna o pokročilé metody technické analýzy, které predikují pohyb ceny stříbra v postranním trendu v následujících několika měsících. Pozitivní vztah byl nalezen v relaci s cenou zlata a cenou ropy, zatímco inverzní vztah byl prokázán v relaci s hodnotou amerického dolaru.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis aims to analyze silver market prices development and its relation to the other investment instruments as well as to evaluate the influence of other factors on price movements. First part presents the historical market price of silver and the influences of fundamental factors. The second part describes the methods used in own analysis, usable for prediction of price development. The third part includes the relation of silver price with selected instruments using correlation and cointegration analysis. Furthermore, there is characterized the influence of macroeconomic announcements and news from the COT report on the silver price, also the connection with Contango and Normal Backwardation. The analysis is completed by advanced technical analysis methods that predict the price movement in the sideways trend over the next few months. The positive relationship was found in relation to the price of gold and the price of oil, while the inverse relationship was shown in relation to the value of the US dollar.
