Efficient Representation of Strategies in Two-Player Games on Graphs

Abstract:

Stratégie hráčov v hrách a podobných matematických objektoch majú obyčajne zdĺhavý explicitný výpis. Zatiaľ čo počítače pracujú bez problémov aj s veľkými stratégiami, pre ľudí je veľmi náročné pochopiť stratégie s rozsiahlou reprezentáciou. Z tohto dôvodu existujú pokusy o objavenie metód pre efektívnu reprezentáciu stratégií. Ľudia dokážu bez veľkej námahy prečítať a pochopiť kompaktne reprezentované stratégie, a to aj v prípade, že sú definované na veľkej hre. V tejto práci predstavujeme metódu efektívnej reprezentácie stratégií v hrách dvoch hráčov na orientovaných grafoch. Využívame model rozhodovacích stromov na reprezentáciu stratégií. Používame explicitný výpis stratégie ako tréningovú dátovú množinu a na tejto dátovej množine spúšťame algoritmus strojového učenia C4.5, aby sme vytvorili rozhodovací strom reprezentujúci stratégiu. Poskytujeme implementáciu tejto metódy, ohodnocujeme túto implementáciu na sade príkladov zo syntézy reaktívnych systémov a prezentujeme prehľad existujúcich metód pre efektívnu reprezentáciu stratégií.

Abstract:

Strategies of players in games and similar mathematical objects are generally lengthy in their explicit listing. While computers can easily work with large strategies, humans have a much harder time understanding strategies with an extensive representation. Therefore, there are attempts to discover methods of efficient strategy representation. Strategies with a compact representation can be read through and understood by humans without too much effort, even though they are defined under a large-scale game. In this thesis, we present a method for an efficient representation of strategies in two-player games on directed graphs. We utilise the model of decision trees for the representation of strategies. We employ the explicit strategy listing as a training data set and run the machine learning algorithm C4.5 on this data set in order to create a strategy representing decision tree. We provide an implementation of this method, we evaluate this implementation on a set of reactive synthesis benchmarks, and we present an overview of existing methods for efficient representations of strategies.
