The thesis deals with ?Künstlernovella? Tonio Kröger by Thomas Mann, which falls into his early works. The main objective is to carry out a thorough literary analysis of this novella, in which its main protagonist searches for the identity of the person of an artist within German society at the beginning of the twentieth century; strongly influenced by its traditional values and lifestyle. Tato diplomová práce se zabývá uměleckou novelou Tonio Kröger od Thomase Manna, která se řadí k jeho raným dílům. Cílem práce je podrobná literární analýza této novely, jejímž hlavním hrdinou je člověk hledající svou uměleckou identitu v německé společnosti na počátku 20. století ovlivněnou tradičními hodnotami a způsobem života.
