Abstract:

Diplomová práce se věnuje tématu osobnosti učitele a jejímu vlivu na přístup žáků k angličtině. Toto téma je hlavní náplní obou částí - teoretické i praktické. Hlavním cílem teoretické části je popis osobnosti učitele pomocí následujících oblastí ? motivace k učitelskému povolání, temperament učitele, charakter učitele a schopnosti učitele. Dále se teoretická část zabývá různými typologiemi osobnosti učitele a v neposlední řadě také motivací. Tato část představuje teoretický základ pro praktickou část. V praktické části je představeno dotazníkové šetření, jehož cílem bylo zjistit názory žáků šestých a devátých tříd na učitelovy osobnostní vlastnosti, schopnosti a pedagogicko-psychologické charakteristiky a jejich vliv na žákův pozitivní přístup k předmětu anglický jazyk. Dalším cílem praktické části bylo zjistit, jak žáci hodnotí vlastnosti, které jsou typické pro extravertní či introvertní učitele a také typické charakteristiky učitelů paidotropů a logotropů. Diplomová práce také podává srovnání názorů mezi žáky šestých a devátých tříd.

Abstract:

This Thesis gives an overall view into the topic of a teacher?s personality with the main focus placed on teacher?s temperament, character, skills and motivation for selecting the teaching profession. Moreover, it outlines the most relevant typologies of a teacher?s personality and at the end of the theoretical part the topic of motivation, which plays a key role regarding learners? positive attitude towards English is introduced. The practical part is devoted to a survey which is concerned with the question of which teacher?s personal traits, methodological skills and pedagogical-psychological characteristics are perceived by students as the most important and therefore contributing to their positive attitude towards English. It is worth mentioning that the research was realised in cooperation with two different age groups to be specific we focused on 6th graders and 9th graders. When obtaining data from participants of two different grades a comparison of their opinions was accomplished. In order to collect the data on which basis the research was carried out, a questionnaire was selected as the most suitable research tool. The results of the research revealed that the opinion on a teacher?s personality between the 6th graders and the 9th graders is highly comparable. To briefly sum up the results of the research, in order to promote student?s positive attitude towards English, teachers need to be fair when evaluating students? performance and be able to present teaching content clearly and comprehensibly. Furthermore, for 6th graders, teachers who express their pleasure with pupils? success, are significant and 9th graders appreciate teachers who neither mock anybody nor do they betray their students. Finally, teachers need to be attributed with patience and friendliness.
