Drama of the foreign. An investigation into Philipp Löhles "We are not barbarians!"

Abstract:

This Bachelor´s thesis deals with the play Wir sind keine Barbaren written by German author Phillip Löhle. The theme of this literary piece is the attitude of German society towards the immigrant policy. The aim of this thesis is to answer the question about the depiction of the image of “foreign” on the refugee character in this literary piece. Plus, possibly discovering that some of these depictions are taken from the discourse created by the media. Theoretical part of this thesis discusses the problems of foreignism in the context of understanding the cultural differences between immigrants and Europeans. Practical part analyzes single depictions of the refugees provided by the German, Swiss and Austrian periodicals and the play itself.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa zaoberá drámou Wir sind keine Barbaren! od nemeckého spisovateľa Philippa Löhleho. Témou tohto literárneho diela je postoj nemeckej spoločnosti k prisťahovaleckej politike. Cieľom práce je zodpovedať otázku, ako dané literárne dielo vykresľuje obraz „cudzieho“ na príklade postavy utečenca, prípadne zistiť, do akej miery preberá jednotlivé zobrazenia imigrantov z mediálneho diskurzu. Teoretická časť je venovaná problematike cudzosti v súvislosti s chápaním kultúrnych odlišností medzi imigrantmi a európskym obyvateľstvom. V praktickej časti práce sú analyzované rozličné zobrazenia utečencov ponúknuté jednak nadregionálnymi nemeckojazyčnými periodikami, jednak samotnou drámou.
