Queerness of the Star Image of Cate Blanchett

Anotace:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analýza queer postav ztvárněné Cate Blanchett ve filmech Carol (2015), Debbie a její parťačky (2018) a Tár (2022). Práce se zaměřuje na to, jak herečka svými rolemi a veřejným obrazem přispívá k narušování heteronormativních genderových norem a jak normalizuje queer postavy v mainstreamové kinematografii. Analýza vychází z teoretických rámců star studies Richarda Dyera a queer studies Judith Butler. Cílem práce je ukázat, jak Blanchett prostřednictvím těchto rolí a veřejného vystupování posouvá diskurz o queer identitách a přispívá k širšímu porozumění a akceptaci. Hlavní závěr práce spočívá v zjištění, že Blanchett nejen reflektuje queer témata, ale aktivně přetváří veřejnou reprezentaci queer postav, čímž přispívá k jejich větší viditelnosti a normalizaci v současné kinematografii.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the queer characters portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the films Carol (2015), Ocean's Eight (2018) and Tár (2022). The thesis focuses on how the actress contributes to the disruption of heteronormative gender norms through her roles and public image, and how she normalizes queer characters in mainstream cinema. The analysis draws on the theoretical frameworks of Richard Dyer's Star Studies and Judith Butler's Queer Studies. The aim of the thesis is to show how Blanchett, through these roles and public performance, shifts the discourse on queer identities and contributes to wider understanding and acceptance. The main conclusion of the thesis is that Blanchett not only reflects on queer issues, but actively reshapes the public representation of queer characters, contributing to their greater visibility and normalization in contemporary cinema.
