Internet as communication tool of type 1 diabetics

Abstract:

Diplomová práce si dává za cíl popsat využití internetu jako komunikačního nástroje diabetiků 1. stupně. Navazuje tak na explorativní práce zabývající se virtuálními komunitami a pomocí kvalitativního výzkumu, polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a metody zakotvené teorie se pokouší osvětlit motivace ke vstupu pacientů s touto diagnózou do zkoumané virtuální komunity. Dále se snaží odhalit povahu sociálních vazeb uvnitř skupiny, popsat pozitiva a negativa, která jim toto členství poskytuje, stejně jako vzorce chování a komunikačních strategií, které si participanti vytvářejí. Výzkumný vzorek kvalitativního výzkumu tvoří 15 pacientů ve věku 14 – 39 let. Tato diplomová práce je jedním z prvních empirických výzkumů týkajících se stále se rozrůstající virtuální komunity diabetiků optikou komunikačních studií.

Abstract:

This empirical thesis explore the virtual community of type 1 diabetics by method of qualitative resarch, semi-structured interviews and grounded theory. Thesis tries to explore the motivation for becoming the part of this community. It is also trying to reveal the nature of social ties within the group, describe the positives and negatives of this membership provides them, as well as patterns of behavior and communication strategies which participants create. The research sample of qualitative research consists of 15 patients aged 14-39 years. This thesis is one of the first empirical research on the ever-growing virtual community of diabetics in the perspective of communication studies.
