Volunteer tourism on organic farms in the Karlovy Vary region

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce je zhodnocení nabídky a poptávky v rámci dobrovolnického cestovního ruchu na ekologických farmách v Karlovarském kraji. První kapitola je zaměřena na vymezení základních pojmů v oblasti venkovského cestovního ruchu a jeho udržitelných forem, jako je ekoturismus a agroturismus. Cílem druhé kapitoly je definovat dobrovolnický cestovní ruch a jeho specifika, pozitivní i negativní vlivy a v neposlední řadě uvést některé organizace, jenž podporují volunturismus na ekologických farmách v národním i mezinárodním měřítku. Praktická část je založena na primárním výzkumu, kterému předchází kapitoly objasňující základní informace o použitých metodách, respondentech a zkoumaných farmách. Respondenty byli potenciální dobrovolníci a zainteresovaní cestovatelé, jakož i zastupitelé vybraných ekofarem. Dotazníkové šetření i hloubkové rozhovory byly strukturovány tak, aby zodpověděly stanovené výzkumné otázky, které byly zaměřeny na oblast povědomí o této formě cestování, potenciální zájem se účastnit dobrovolnického cestovního ruchu a očekávání od takového typu pobytu. Poslední kapitola navrhuje případná řešení a doporučení pro budoucí rozvoj vybraných ekologických farem. Hlavní závěry práce dokládají, že očekávání eventuálních dobrovolníků se v mnohém často potkávají s realitou a že existuje prostor pro zlepšení propagačních forem, které vybrané ekofarmy aplikují.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is focused on the evaluation of supply and demand within volunteer tourism on organic farms in the Karlovy Vary region. First chapter is oriented at defining basic terms and the concept of rural tourism itself, as well as characterizing some other forms of sustainable tourism such as ecotourism or agrotourism. The aim of second chapter is to define voluntourism including its specificities, positive and negative aspects and finally to mention some organizations and institutions which participate in the field of voluntourism on a national or international scale. The practical part consists in a research preceded by chapters clarifying basic information about the used methods, participating respondents, and selected farms. The respondents were potential volunteers and interested travelers, as well as representatives of selected farms. Both the questionnaire survey and the in-depth interviews were structured to answer the research questions that were set and focused on the awareness of this form of travel, the potential interest in participating in voluntourism and expectations from this kind of stay. The final chapter proposes possible solutions and recommendations for the future development of selected organic farms in the Karlovy Vary region. The main conclusions of the work demonstrate that the expectations of prospective volunteers often meet with reality in many ways and that there is scope to improve the forms of promotion applied by the selected farms.
