Scuritisation of space: an ethnographic of a marginalised space

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on etnographic study of security-enhancing mechanisms in chosen public space, which is district Husovice in Brno, Czech Republic. Security enhancement encompasses ways to protect space from unwanted actions and uninvited visitors, regardless of whether these are stigmatized people or actual perpetrators of criminal offenses. The primary function of security-enhancing objects and procedures is to protect, but they also bear witness to the presence of threat. The main goal of this work is to determine, how these enhancements influence the image of the locality and how effective they are with regard to their primary function.

Abstract:

Predmetom práce je etnografická štúdia mechanizmov sekuritizácie vo vybranom verejnom priestore, ktorým bola mestská časť Brno-sever Husovice.Základné teoretické východiská práce predstavujú teórie prevencií kriminality pomocou enviromentálneho dizajnu.Práca je rozdelená do troch častí: teoretickej, metodologickej a empirickej.Záverom štúdie je zistenie, že sekuritizačné prvky nie len že nemusia plniť v priestore svoju funkciu ochrany, ale dokonca môžu podnecovať tvorbu kriminálneho či inak normy porušujúceho jednania.
