T: Aesthetic of war photography in XXI century

Abstract:

V této práci se zabývám estetikou válečné fotografie. Vycházím přitom z teorií dvou francouzských filozofů, Rolanda Barthese a Francoise Soulagese, a doplňuji je kritickým myšlením Susan Sontag. Abychom pochopili estetiku fotografie 21. století, musíme znát dějiny válečné fotografie, a proto se v následujících kapitolách budu věnovat náčrtem těchto dějin. V této práci vycházím z toho, že fotografie je plnohodnotným uměním, proto jsem nemohl vynechat úvahy o tom, kdy a jak se jím stala. Jako příklad použiji analýzu díla Jefa Walla. Změny, k nimž došlo ve způsobu fotografování války, nelze pochopit bez širšího kontextu. Spolupráce s agenturami, vliv televize nebo konečně změny v samotném vedení války jsou zdrojem tří krizí: estetické, etické a ekonomické.Na základě práce Luca Delahaye, Richarda Moose a Lisy Barnard představím tři různé reakce na výše uvedené krize.

Abstract:

In this work I deal with the aesthetics of war photography. This work is based on the theories of two French philosophers, Roland Barthes and Francois Soulages, with the addition of critical thoughts of Susan Sontag. To understand the aesthetics of 21st century photography, we must know the history of war photography, and therefore in the following chapters I will focus on an outline of this history. In this work, I assume that photography is a full-fledged art, so I could not omit thoughts about when and how it became such one. I will use the analysis of Jeff Wall’s work as an example. The changes that have taken place in the way war is photographed cannot be understood without a broader context. Cooperation with agencies, the influence of television or finally changes in the conduct of the war itself are the source of three crises: aesthetic, ethical and economic. Based on the work of Luc Delahay, Richard Moose and Lisa Barnard, I will present three different responses to the crises mentioned above.
