Love Conquers All: The Analysis of the Significance of Love in the First Three Harry Potter Novels

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na téma lásky v prvních třech románech o Harrym Potterovi od J. K. Rowlingové. Cílem práce je prozkoumat význam lásky a její využití jako hybné síly v příběhu Harryho Pottera. Zaměřuje se na dva typy lásky, a to lásku rodičovskou a lásku přátelskou, a jejich vliv na chování postav. Práce se skládá z několika částí. První část představuje autorku románů a vliv série. Druhá část zobrazuje absenci lásky, která odráží dětství v násilnické domácnosti. Třetí část práce zobrazuje význam sociálního prostředí pro vývoj člověka. Následující část představuje sílu rodičovské lásky a její vliv na identitu dítěte. Závěrečná část ukazuje hodnotu přátelství v životě člověka a vliv lásky na jednání postavy.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the theme of love in the first three Harry Potter novels written by J.K. Rowling. The thesis aims to examine the importance of love and its use as a driving force in the story of Harry Potter. It concentrates on two types of love, namely parental love and love of friends, and their effect on the character’s behaviour. The thesis consists of several parts. The first part introduces the author of the novels and the impact of the series. The second part depicts the absence of love, reflecting childhood in an abusive household. The third part of the thesis portrays the importance of the social environment in one’s development. The following part presents the power of parental love and its impact on a child’s identity. The final part demonstrates the value of friendship in one’s life and how love affects the character’s actions.
