Communication of the governments of the EU countries with national MEPs: Case study of the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, jak vlády členských států EU komunikují s europoslanci své země. K naplnění tohoto cíle slouží případová studie zaměřená na komunikaci vlády České republiky s českými europoslanci ve volebních obdobích 2004-2009 a 2009-2014. Hlavním zdrojem informací pro tuto studii jsou rozhovory a písemné odpovědi, které pro účely této práce poskytli vybraní čeští europoslanci. Struktura těchto rozhovorů byla přizpůsobena tak, aby umožnila zodpovězení následujících výzkumných otázek: 1) Jak vypadala komunikace mezi vládou a českými europoslanci? 2) Jak se tato komunikace změnila v průběhu členství ČR v EU? 3) Existoval rozdíl v přístupu vlády k jednotlivým europoslancům? Struktura práce sestává ze dvou částí. První část se zabývá odbornou literaturou, která k danému tématu vznikla nebo s ním nějakým způsobem souvisí, zatímco druhou část tvoří případová studie České republiky. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty získané poznatky a zodpovězeny vymezené výzkumné otázky.

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to find out how the governments of the EU member states communicate with their countries' MEPs. This goal is achieved by means of a case study which is focused on communication between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Czech MEPs in the electoral terms 2004-2009 and 2009-2014. The main information sources for this study are the interviews and written responses which were provided for the purposes of this thesis by selected Czech MEPs. These interviews were structured so as to provide answers to the following research questions: 1) How did the communication between the government and the Czech MEPs look like? 2) How did this communication change during the Czech Republic's membership in the EU? 3) Was there any difference in the government's approach to the individual MEPs? The structure of the thesis consists of two parts. The first one deals with literature related to this topic while the second one is the case study of the Czech Republic. The conclusion summarizes the findings and answers defined research questions.
