Evaluation of the presentation of selected regions of Asia in geography textbooks using conceptual maps

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je porovnat prezentaci států Izraele a Japonska ve třech učebnicích zeměpisu od nakladatelství Fraus, Nová škola a Prodos. Práce se zaměřuje na to, která podobná témata se objevovala napříč všemi učebnicemi a která témata prezentovala pouze jedna učebnice. Jako prostředek pro porovnání států Izraele a Japonska bylo využito metody pojmového mapování. Pojmové mapy jsou schémata, která ukazují vztahy mezi vybranými koncepty. Na tvorbě pojmových map se podíleli studenti prvního ročníku navazujícího magisterského studia studující na Univerzitě Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem. Každý z nich pracoval se dvěma učebnicemi. Z jejich pojmových map bylo následně vytvořeno šest syntetických pojmových map, ze kterých se vyprodukovaly výsledky. Výsledky ukázaly, že autoři učebnic podávají čtenářům stručnější informace a postupují po tematických složkách, čímž neukazují souvislosti mezi tematickými oblastmi.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to compare the presentation of the states of Israel and Japan in three geography textbooks published by Fraus, Nová škola and Prodos. The thesis focuses on which similar themes appeared across all textbooks and which themes were presented by only one textbook. The concept mapping method was used as a tool to compare the states of Israel and Japan. Concept maps are diagrams that show the relationships between selected concepts. Students of the first year of the Master's degree programme studying at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem participated in the creation of the conceptual maps. Each of them worked with two textbooks. Their concept maps were then used to create six synthetic concept maps from which the results were produced. The results showed that the authors of the textbooks provide readers with more concise information and move through the thematic components, thus not showing the connections between the thematic areas.
