Advantaages and disadvantages of transition to Euro on economy of enterprises

Abstract:

V předkládané diplomové práci na téma „Výhody a nevýhody přechodu na euro pro hospodaření podniku“ se zabývám přínosy a náklady ze zavedení jednotné měny pro podnikovou sféru. V teoretické části se stručně věnuji vzniku Evropské měnové unie, včetně nejdůležitějších historických mezníků tohoto procesu a také kritériím, jež jsou nezbytnou podmínkou úspěšného fungování měnové unie. Popisuji hlavní úspěchy a neúspěchy během prvních deseti let existence eurozóny. Podstatnou část práce tvoří problematika zavedení eura v ČR, tj. zhodnocení stavu připravenosti České republiky na vstup do EMU, stupeň udržitelné konvergence a stav ekonomické sladěnosti s eurozónou, přínosy, náklady a dopady členství na podnikovou sféru. Samostatná kapitola je věnována kurzovému riziku a možnostem jeho zajištění. V aplikační části je provedena na konkrétním podnikatelském subjektu kvantifikace kurzového rizika a jeho srovnání v případě národní měny a v případě jednotné měny.

Abstract:

The thesis “advantages and disadvantages of transition to Euro for the economy of an enterprise” explores the benefits and expenses of introduction of a common currency to the business sphere. The theoretical part briefly inquires into the creation of the European monetary union, including the historical milestones of the process as well as the indispensable criteria upon which the successful functioning of the monetary union hinges. The main successes and shortfalls of the Eurozone in the course of the first decade are briefly touched upon. The core chapter of the thesis contemplates the challenge of introduction of Euro in the Czech Republic, including concise assessment of the attained level of preparedness for joining EMU, the level of sustainable convergence, achieved economical conformity with the Eurozone as well as the benefits, the collateral expenses and ensuing consequences for enterprises and businesses. A separate chapter is dealing with the exchange rate risk and available tools for its elimination. The final part of the thesis delivers quantification of the exchange rate risk based on real data of a selected enterprise comparing the options of a national versus common currency.
