Patients awareness of electrical cardioversion

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o informovanosti pacientů před elektrickou kardioverzí. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část popisuje arytmie, které lze elektrickou kardioverzí řešit, zaměřuje se na samostatnou elektrickou kar-dioverzi, ale dotýká se i alternativních možností kardioverzí. Na závěr teoretické čás-ti je podrobně popsána péče o pacienty před, během a po provedení elektrické kardi-overze. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak dobře jsou pacienti odesílajícím lékařem informováni o tom, co elektrická kardioverze je, jak probíhá a jak má být pacient připraven. Porov-nat míru informovanosti pacientů v závislosti na odesílajícím lékaři a zjistit, jak obavy pacientů z elektrické kardioverze korelují s jejich informovaností o výkonu. Výzkum, kterým se zabývá praktická část práce, byl proveden formou dotazníkového průzku-mu mezi pacienty, kteří byli elektivně odesláni k ambulantní elektrické kardioverzi. Výsledky ukázaly, že pacienti jsou o výkonu relativně dobře informováni. Nebyla prokázána statisticky významná závislost objektivní míry informovanosti na věku, pohlaví nebo vzdělání respondentů. Rovněž nebyla prokázána statisticky významná závislost míry informovanosti pacientů na odesílajícím lékaři. Míru informovanosti významným způsobem zvyšovalo předchozí absolvování kardioverze. Nepotvrdila se statisticky významná závislost mezi objektivní mírou informovanosti a mírou obav z výkonu.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the awareness of patients before electrical cardioversion. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part describes the arrhythmias that can be treated with electrical cardioversion, focuses on stand-alone electrical cardioversion, but also touches on alternative cardioversion options. The theoretical part concludes with a detailed description of patient care before, du-ring and after electric cardioversion. The aim of the thesis was to determine how well patients are informed by the refer-ring physician about what electrical cardioversion is, how it is performed and how the patient should be prepared. To compare the level of patient awareness depending on the referring physician and to see how patients' concerns about electric cardi-oversion correlate with their awareness of the procedure. The research addressed in the practical part of the thesis was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey among patients referred for outpatient electrical cardioversion. The results showed that patients were relatively well informed about the procedure. There was no statis-tically significant dependence of the objective level of awareness on the age, gender or education of the respondents. There was also no statistically significant dependen-ce of the patients' awareness rate on the referring physician. Previous cardioversion significantly increased the awareness rate. There was no statistically significant rela-tionship between the objective level of awareness and the level of concern about the procedure.
