Universal portfolios

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá univerzálními portfolii jak z teoretického, tak praktického hlediska. Převážná část práce je věnována Univerzálnímu portfoliu profesora Covera. Podrobně dokážeme jeho univerzálnost, možné numerické řešení a praktické problémy na reálných datech. V třetí části dáme do spojitosti Univerzální portfolio s Bayesovským portfoliem s neúplnou informací a ukážeme, že za předpokladu Brownova pohybu cen jsou ekvivalentní. Součástí práce jsou i praktické experimenty na reálných datech pro celou řadu portfolií. Na základě této práce byla také vytvořena open-source knihovna pro snadnější analýzu on-line portfolií.

Abstract:

In this work, we look into universal portfolios from both theoretical and practical viewpoint. The majority of this work is devoted to the Universal portfolio by Thomas M. Cover. We will prove its universality, go through its numerical implementation and evaluate it on real-world datasets. The third part will bridge the gap between the Universal portfolio and the Bayesian portfolio with incomplete information by showing their equivalence under the assumption of Brownian motion. The theoretical part is followed by experiments on real-world stock data comparing variety of portfolios. An open-source library for easier analysis of on-line portfolios was also created on the basis of this work.
