Selected topics of statistical inference using higher order asymptotics

Abstract:

V diplomové práci se věnujeme aproximaci testovacích statistik druhého řádu jako je statistika poměrem věrohodnosti, Waldova a skóre statistika a jejich kombinacím, mezi které patří Barndorff-Nielsenova statistika, Skovgaardova statistika a Bartlettova korekce. Také je zde představena možná aproximace hustoty či pravděpodobnostní funkce pomocí sedlového bodu. Vlastnosti těchto statistik jsou zkoumány prostřednictvím simulační studie, kde pro konkrétně zvolené hypotézy sledujeme jejich chování při zvyšujícím se rozsahu náhodného výběru. Blíže se věnujeme hypotéze o jedné střední hodnotě v normálním rozdělení, hypotéze o rozdílu dvou středních hodnot v normálním rozdělení za i bez předpokladu homogenity rozptylů, hypotéze o parametru pravděpodobnosti z binomického rozdělení a hypotéze o rozdílu dvou pravděpodobností z binomického rozdělení. Výsledky simulací jsou vizualizovány řadou animací, které zachycují rozdělení jednotlivých statistik za platnosti nulových hypotéz. V poslední kapitole se věnujeme aplikacím statistik ze simulační studie na antropologických datech. Simulace a data byla zpracována pomocí programovacího jazyka R.

Abstract:

In this thesis, we study approximation of second-order test statistics, such as likelihood ratio, Wald statistics and score statistics and their combination, which include Barndorff-Nielsen statistics, Skovgaard statistics and Bartlett correction. Finally, a possible approximation of density or probability function using a saddle point is given. The properties of these statistics are investigated using a simulation study. For specifically selected hypotheses, we study their behavior influenced by the increasing number of observations. We deal with the hypothesis of one mean value in the normal distribution, then with the hypothesis of the difference of two means in the normal distribution with and without the assumption of variances homogeneity, also with the hypothesis of the probability parameter from binomial distribution and finally, the hypothesis of the difference of two probabilities from binomial distribution. The results of the simulations are visualized by animations that capture the distribution of statistics. We applied statistics from the simulation study to anthropological data in the last chapter. The R language was used for programming.
