Gender Roles and Nostalgia for Traditional Values: The Case of "Tradwives".

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá fenoménem "tradwives" (tradičních manželek) a jeho projevy na sociálních sítích v americkém kontextu. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a empirickou. Teoretická část se věnuje vymezení pojmu tradwives a jeho vztahu k feminismu, genderovým rolím a mediální reprezentaci žen. Dále se zaměřuje na roli sociálních sítí při formování ideálů ženskosti a rodinného života. Empirická část využívá metodologii Visual Grounded Theory Methodology (VGTM) pro kvalitativní analýzu vizuálních materiálů z platforem Instagram, TikTok a YouTube. Předmětem výzkumu jsou příspěvky a videa tvůrkyň, jako jsou Nara Smith, Hannah Neeleman (Ballerina Farm), Estee Williams a Ivy Lauren. Analýza sleduje, jak vizuální obsah vyjadřuje tradiční hodnoty, nostalgii po minulosti a postoje vůči feminismu. Cílem práce je identifikovat klíčové vizuální strategie, jimiž hnutí tradwives konstruuje obraz ideální ženy a rodiny, a zhodnotit jejich vliv na veřejné vnímání genderových rolí v současné společnosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis explores the phenomenon of "tradwives" and its manifestations on social media within the American context. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical parts. The theoretical part defines the concept of tradwives and examines its relationship to feminism, gender roles, and the media representation of women. It also focuses on the role of social media in shaping ideals of femininity and family life. The empirical part applies the Visual Grounded Theory Methodology (VGTM) to conduct a qualitative analysis of visual materials from platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The research focuses on posts and videos created by influencers including Nara Smith, Hannah Neeleman (Ballerina Farm), Estee Williams, and Ivy Lauren. The analysis examines how visual content expresses traditional values, nostalgia for the past, and attitudes toward feminism. The aim of the thesis is to identify the key visual strategies through which the tradwives movement constructs the image of the ideal woman and family, and to assess their influence on public perceptions of gender roles in contemporary society.
