Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá utvářením vztahu mezi lékaři a pacienty v průběhu druhé poloviny devatenáctého století. Pozornost je věnována profesionalizaci a vytváření monopolu lékařů na léčebném trhu, jejich postavení vůči svým kolegům, konkurenci - léčitelům a pacientům. Práce se rovněž zabývá analýzou genderového podmínění nemocí. Kulturní reflexe lékařů je zprostředkována pomocí analýzy dobové beletrie, kde je sledována postava lékaře i pacienta a popis léčebné terapie. Rovněž jsou prezentovány i osobní zkušenosti s léčbou, pomocí sondy do egodokumentů jedinců, kteří v průběhu devatenáctého století prošli léčebnou terapií a měli zdravotní potíže. Stěžejní část práce představuje vytvořená statistika, která mapuje léčebné strategie pacientů a vývoj vyhledávání lékařské péče v průběhu sledovaného období diplomové práce 1850-1914, soustředí se také na pohlaví, věk a sociální status nemocných.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the formation of a relationship between medical doctors and patients during the second half of the 19th century. An emphasis is put on a professionalization and on a formation of the expert monopoly within the frame of medical market, their position towards their colleagues and their competition-the healers, quackers, midwives-and the other side of the therapeutic intercourse-the patients. The paper also deals with an analysis of gender-specific diseases. The cultural reflection of the doctors is mediated through an analysis of the period fiction in which the character of both, doctors and patients, is followed. Part of the analysis is dedicated for interpretation of different descriptions of medical therapy. Furthermore, personal experiences with treatment are presented withhelp of egodocuments of individuals who went through medical therapy during the 19th century and had various health issues. Statistics, which are a key part of the thesis, were created to show a number of treatment strategies and a development of seeking medical care during the period which is monitored in this diploma thesis, from 1850 to 1914. It also reflects gender, age and social specific status of the patients.
