Global Happiness Index versus COVID-19: Has COVID changed the perception of happiness in different macroregions of the world?

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá dopady pandemie koronaviru na vnímání štěstí v zájmovém území, které tvoří Evropský, Africký a Latinskoamerický makroregion. Primárním cílem práce je zjistit, zda existují regionální rozdíly ve vnímání štěstí a zda jeho vnímání ovlivnila pandemie COVID-19. Cílem kvalifikační práce je rovněž charakterizovat zdravotní a ekonomické dopady pandemie v zájmovém území. Diplomovou práci tvoří celkem jedenáct kapitol. Kapitola 1 charakterizuje cíle práce. Kapitola 2 popisuje metodiku kvalifikační práce. Kapitoly 3 a 4 definují pojem pandemie a seznamují s problematikou onemocnění COVID-19. Kapitola 5 definuje pojem štěstí a charakterizuje Global Happiness Index, který je hlavním předmětem diplomové práce. Kapitola 6 se zabývá problematikou makroregionální diferenciace světa a objasňuje výběr zvoleného způsobu makroregionalizace a výběr zájmového území. K makroregionální diferenciaci autor přistoupil podle díla tří českých geografů Anděl, Bičík, Bláha (2019). Kapitoly 7 až 9 se zabývají zájmovými makroregiony a popisují vnímání štěstí, zdravotní a ekonomické dopady pandemie v jejich prostoru. Součástí těchto kapitol je prostorová analýza, která byla zhotovena prostřednictvím kartografických výstupů. Kapitola 10 je komparací důležitých poznatků, které byly charakterizované v rámci kapitol 7 až 9. Kapitola 11 je založena na statistických analýzách. Shrnutí celého díla je obsaženo v závěru práce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on the perception of happiness in the area of interest, which consists of the European, African and Latin American macroregions. The primary goal of the work is to find out if there are regional differences in the perception of happiness, and whether its perception has been affected by COVID-19. The goal of the qualification work is also to characterize the health and economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic in the area of interest. The diploma thesis consists of a total of eleven chapters. Chapter 1 characterizes the objectives of the work. Chapter 2 describes the methodology of the qualification work. Chapters 3 and 4 define the term pandemic and introduce the issue of the disease COVID- 19. Chapter 5 defines the concept of happiness and characterizes the Global Happiness Index, which is the main subject of the thesis. Chapter 6 deals with the issue of macroregional differentiation of the world and clarifies the choice of the methodology used for macroregionalization, and the choice of the area of interest. The author approached macroregional differentiation according to the work of three Czech geographers: Anděl, Bičík, Bláha (2019). Chapters 7 to 9 deal with the macroregions of interest and describe perceptions of happiness, health, and economic impacts of the pandemic in their area. Part of these chapters consists of a spatial analysis that was made through cartographic outputs. Chapter 10 is a comparison of important findings that were found in Chapters 7 to 9. Chapter 11 is based on statistical analyses. A summary of the entire work is contained in the conclusion of the work.
