Počítačové siete začali byť postupom času čoraz viac komplexné a teda aj komplikované na konfiguráciu. Hľadanie chýb v takýchto komplexných a komplikovaných systémoch je veľmi problematické a podpora pre administrátorov siete zo strany rôznych nástrojov uľahčujúcich túto prácu je nedostatočná.
