The Currency and Banking Crises in the Czech Economy - experience and perspectives

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá bankovní a měnovou krizí v České republice v 90. letech 20. století. Jejím cílem je analyzovat měnovou krizi a souvislost s krizí bankovní. Na základě těchto získaných zkušeností se snaží odhadnout riziko potenciální měnové a bankovní krize v nadcházejících letech, zejména pak v období, kdy Česká republika na cestě k eurozóně bude začleněna do mechanismu ERM II. Teoreticko-metodologická část práce mapuje pojmy měnová a bankovní krize a jejich obecnou charakteristiku i vzájemné souvislosti. Následují kapitoly o dopadech měnové krize do hospodaření bank a o možných přístupech centrálních autorit při řešení problémů bank. Aplikační část diplomové práce je věnována bankovní krizi a měnové krizi v naší republice v 90. letech minulého století. Rozebrány jsou také konkrétní dopady této měnové krize do českých bank. Závěr aplikační části je zaměřen na aktuální stav našeho bankovního sektoru, především s ohledem na budoucí účast České republiky v ERM II a na riziko vzniku hypotetické měnové krize. Současný pohled do budoucna říká, že Českou republiku při jejím zapojení do systému ERM II s velkou pravděpodobností neohrozí ani měnová, ani bankovní krize.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the banking and currency crisis in the Czech Republic in the 1990s. Its aim is to analyze the currency crisis and the relation with the banking crisis. Pursuant to this obtained experience it tries to forecast the risk of the potential currency and banking crisis in the coming years, especially in the period when the Czech Republic will be incorporated on the way to the euro area into the mechanism ERM II. The theoretic-methodic section of the thesis surveys the terms the currency and banking crises and their general characteristic and the mutual relation. The chapters about the impacts of the currency crisis into the banks economy and about the possible attitudes of the central authorities towards solving of the banks problems follow. The application section of the thesis is paid to the banking crisis and the currency one in our country in the 1990s. The concrete impacts of this currency crisis into the czech banks are analyzed also. The conclusion of the application section is intended for the actual situation of our banking sector, above all with the respect to the future participation of the Czech Republic in ERM II and to the risk of the rise of the hypothetical currency crisis. The contemporary sight into the future says that at its integration into the system ERM II the Czech Republic will be endangered with the big likelihood neither by the currency crisis or by the banking one.
