Black Consciousness: A Case Study of Black Africans in the Czech Republic

Anotace:

The “problem” of Africa is no hidden secret among Africans and the fact remains that you cannot talk of the “problems” of Africa and possible solutions without considering the issues of Black Consciousness. Black Consciousness is one of those concepts employed in order to raise and present a brighter image of Africans all over the world. The subject, Black Consciousness derives from diverse viewpoints, diverse disciplines and most importantly diverse cultural orientations. Scholars such as Biko, Du Bios and Cross have used concepts like “Black Consciousness”, “Double Consciousness” and the “Nigrescence Model”, to tackle the various setbacks, suffered by the Black soul. These theoretical views were adopted in my study. My study answered the following research questions; (i) How does Black Consciousness influence or impact the everyday experiences of Blacks living in the Czech Republic? (ii) Is the ideology of Black Consciousness still relevant and how has it manifested today? The general objective is to examine whether the seeds planted by these Black scholars still lay within the minds and influence the behaviors of Africans living in the Czech Republic. My study adopts a qualitative design. Data have been collected through in-depth interviews, in which 10 respondents have participated. Further, thematic analysis is used to analyze the data collected.
