Esoteric Interests in the Life of Leopold Count Thun - Hohenstein (1888 - 1944)

Abstract:

Má práce je zaměřena na zájem hraběte Leopolda Thun-Hohensteina o okultní vědy, konkrétně o astrologii, kosmologii, zemědělskou radiestezii a léčitelství. Těmto vědám se hrabě Leopold věnoval již od 20. let 20. století. Nejprve sbíral teoretické poznatky a ve 30. letech začal s uváděním svých znalostí do praxe. Se svou činností pokračoval i za Protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Stal se členem NSDAP a získal říšské občanství. Své zkušenosti v oblasti radiestezie dokonce nabídl Adolfu Hitlerovi. Cílem mé bakalářské práce je představit osobnost hraběte Leopolda Thun-Hohensteina, jeho životní osudy, zájmy, pracovní činnost a vztah ke společnosti a společenskému dění. Odkrytí Leopoldova života a jeho myšlenkového vývoje pomůže lépe pochopit jeho zájem o esoterické vědy a rovněž umožní odhalit souvislosti mezi jeho zainteresovaností v esoterice a vztahem k nacismu. Na spojitost nacismu a okultismu již poukázalo několik zahraničních autorů, kteří svou práci směřovali do oblasti Německa, případně Rakouska. Ve své práci bych chtěla srovnat konkrétní příklad osobnosti hraběte Leopolda s výsledky výzkumů těchto autorů a získat tím náhled do této problematiky v českých zemích.

Abstract:

My work focuses on count?s Leopold Thun-Hohenstein?s interest in occult sciences, specifically in astrology, cosmology, agricultural radiestesie and healing. Count Leopold was devoted to these sciences since the twenties of the twentieth century. Firstly he collected theoretical knowledge and in the thirties he started to transfer his knowledge into practical use. He continued his work even during Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. He became a member of NSDAP and obtained Reich?s citizenship. He even offered his experience in the field of radiestesie to Adolf Hitler. Aim of my bachelor work is to introduce the personality of count Leopold Thun-Hohenstein, his life, interests, work and relationship to society and social affairs. Uncovering Leopold?s life and his mentality will help to better understand his fascination in esoteric sciences and also enables to reveal connections between his interest in esotericism and relation to Nazism. A few foreign authors have already pointed out connections between Nazism and occultism, and these authors headed their work towards the area of Germany, or Austria. In my work I would like to compare concrete example of the personality of count Leopold with the results of the studies from those authors and to gain an insight into this theme in the Czech lands.
