The usage of hybrid books for the Deaf

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce bylo zmapovat názory uživatelů českého znakového jazyka na využití hybridních knih v edukaci neslyšících. Diplomová práce je rozčleněna na 2 části, na část teoretickou a část empirickou. Teoretická část obsahuje tři kapitoly zaměřené na problematiku edukačních materiálů ve znakovém jazyce, hybridní knihu a proces vytváření textu ve znakovém jazyce. První kapitola popisuje znakový jazyk a jeho uživatele jako kulturní a jazykovou menšinu. Dále zmiňuje i bilingvální vzdělávání a platformy pro publikování dokumentů ve znakovém jazyce. Druhá kapitola je věnována platformě hybridní knihy a jejímu navigačnímu systému, včetně použití hybridní knihy v edukačním procesu. Třetí kapitola popisuje proces vytváření textů ve znakovém jazyce pro hybridní knihu. Empirická část obsahuje jednu kapitolu, v ní jsou uvedeny cíle, metody výzkumného šetření a charakteristika zkoumaného vzorku. Kapitola také shrnuje interpretaci výsledků výzkumného šetření získaných kvalitativní metodou pomocí polostrukturovaného interview. Polostrukturované interview se sestávalo ze 4 oblastí. První oblast byla zaměřena na využívání hybridních knih v současné době, další oblast zjišťovala zkušenosti respondentů s ovládáním hybridní knihy. Třetí oblast mapovala názory respondentů na využívání hybridních knih jako edukačního materiálu ve výuce neslyšících a poslední čtvrtá oblast zjišťovala názory respondentů na přínosnost hybridních knih.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to map the opinions of Czech Sign Language users on the use of hybrid books in education of the Deaf. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part of the thesis comprises three chapters, which focus on educational materials in sign language, the hybrid book, and the process of creating text in sign language. Chapter one describes sign language and its users as a cultural and linguistic minority. Furthermore it mentions bilingual education and a desktop publishing in sign language. Chapter two focuses on the platform of the hybrid book and its navigation system, including the use of hybrid books in the educational process. Chapter three describes the process of creating texts in sign language for hybrid book. The empirical part of the thesis contains one chapter, which states the objectives, research methods, and the characterization of the research sample. This chapter also summarizes the interpretation of results obtained by a qualitative research method using a semi-structured interview. The semi-structured interview consisted of 4 areas. The first area was focused on the use of hybrid books currently, another area found out the experience of respondents in the navigation of hybrid books. The third area mapped the opinions of respondents on the use of hybrid books as an educational material in education of the Deaf and the last fourth area mapped the opinions of respondents on the benefit of hybrid books.
