Relationship between religion and other factors and gender inequalities in Thailand

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje vztahu mezi náboženstvím a dalšími faktory a genderovými nerovnostmi v Thajsku. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, zda lze mezi třemi skupinami osob s dominantním náboženským vyznáním v Thajsku identifikovat signifikantní diferenci v přesvědčeních o roli a postavení ženy ve společnosti. Teoretická část obsahuje rešerši literatury týkající se obrazu ženy v náboženství a její role ve společnosti. Empirická část se následně věnuje analýze dotazníkového šetření. Výsledky práce ukazují, že mezi hlavními kategoriemi je významný rozdíl v podpoře genderové rovnosti. Výrazně nižší podporu genderové rovnosti vykazují muslimové, v rámci této kategorie také muži podporují genderovou nerovnost více než ženy. Největší rozdíly mezi kategoriemi se vyskytují v oblastech péče o rodinu a domácnost, v oblasti distribuce moci a v politické oblasti. Práce přichází také s dalšími zajímavými závěry, které mohou posloužit jako podklad pro další výzkumy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the relationship between religion and other factors and gender inequalities in Thailand. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate whether the three dominant religious groups in Thailand differ significantly in their beliefs about the role and position of women in the society. The theoretical part contains literature overview concerning the image of woman in religion and her role in society. The empirical part is then devoted to the analysis of the questionnaire survey. The results show that the main categories differ significantly in the promotion of gender equality. Muslims show significantly lower support for gender equality; within this category, men also support gender inequality more than women. The biggest differences between the categories are in the areas of family and household care, power distribution and politics. The thesis also comes with other interesting conclusions that can serve as a basis for further research.
