Mormons - the Origin of the Church and Its Specific Features

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as Mormons, which is the only purely American religion and has been spreading from the USA also to other countries of the world. The thesis focuses not only on the history of the Church, its basic scriptures and principles, but it as well presents some of the aspects of this religion that might be considered controversial by people of different creed or by atheists. Last but not least, current Mormon customs and their influence on non-Mormons and the American society as a whole are described in this thesis.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá Církví Ježíše Krista Svatých Posledních Dní, jinak známou jako Mormoni, která jako jediná vznikla na území Spojených států amerických, odkud se také rychle šíří do jiných zemí světa. Práce představí nejen historií této církve a její základní charakteristické rysy a náboženské spisy, nýbrž prezentuje také klíčové aspekty víry Mormonů, které mohou být stoupenci jiných náboženství či případně ateisty považovány za diskutabilní. Práce mimo jiné demonstruje rovněž současné působení církve a její vliv na okolí i americkou společnost.
