Disclosure of non-financial information by medium and large companies in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou nefinančního výkaznictví a zjišťuje postoj středně velkých a velkých podniků ke zveřejňování nefinančních informací v souvislosti s ustanovením zákona o účetnictví. Nejdřív je v práci zkoumána otázka rozdílu nefinančního reportingu od finančního. Dále je pozornost zaměřena na vymezení pojmů nefinančního reportingu a na seznámení s historickým vývojem nefinančního výkaznictví. V další části práci je deskripce dvou celosvětově nejvíce vyžívaných typů nefinančního reportingu – zpráva o CSR a zpráva o udržitelnosti. V praktické části práce je provedena analýza zveřejňování nefinančních informací podniky České republiky. Analýza je primárně zaměřena na zkoumání výskytu těchto informací ve výročních zprávách zvolených podniků. Obsahovou analýzou je zkoumán vzorek 140 podniků, spadajících do určité kategorie účetních jednotek. Pro jednotlivou kategorii jsou stanovené výzkumné otázky, které jsou následně zodpovězeny. Výsledky zjištění jsou vyhodnoceny pomocí nástrojů popisné analýzy.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis addresses the issue of non-financial reporting and investigates the attitude of medium-sized and large companies to the disclosure of their non-financial information in accordance with the Accounting Act. First, there is an exploration of distinction between financial and non-financial reporting. Then it is focused on defining the non-financial reporting and looked into its historical development. Further part describes the two widely used types of non-financial reporting – the CSR report and the Sustainability report. In the practical part of the work there is an analysis of the disclosure of non-financial information by companies in the Czech Republic. The analysis primarily focuses on examining the occurrence of the non-financials in the annual reports of selected companies. The content analysis is used to analyze a sample of 140 companies, belonging to specific category of reporting entity. Research questions are set for each category, which are then answered. The results of the findings are evaluated using descriptive analysis tools.
