Achievement motivation of adolescents: a comparison of adolescents from families and children's homes

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor's thesis was to map the performance motivation of adolescents growing up in a family environment in comparison to adolescents living in orphanages. We also focused on the differences in school grades between the two groups of adolescents. Our research population consisted of 140 adolescents, 113 adolescents from regular families and 27 from orphanages. As a data collection method, we used the D-M-V performance motivation questionnaire measuring performance motivation using three subscales. The results showed significant differences between the studied groups of respondents across all subscales of the test. When comparing the average marks on the report card, adolescents from ordinary families performed better than adolescents from orphanages. The results of this paper contribute to the knowledge about the educational environment shaping adolescents' motivation to perform.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce bolo zmapovať výkonovú motiváciu u dospievajúcich vyrastajúcich v rodinnom prostredí v porovnaní s dospievajúcimi žijúcimi v detských domovoch. Taktiež sme sa zamerali na rozdiely v školskom prospechu medzi dvoma skupinami dospievajúcich. Náš výskumný súbor tvorilo 140 dospievajúcich, z toho 113 dospievajúcich z bežných rodín a 27 z detských domovov. Ako metódu zberu dát sme použili dotazník výkonovej motivácie D-M-V zisťujúci výkonovú motiváciu pomocou troch subškál. Výsledky ukázali významné rozdiely medzi skúmanými skupinami respondentov v rámci všetkých subškál testu. Pri porovnaní priemeru známok na vysvedčení dospievajúci z bežných rodín vykazovali lepšie výsledky ako dospievajúci z detských domovov. Výsledky práce prispievajú k poznatkom o výchovnom prostredí formujúcom motiváciu adolescentov k výkonu.
