From Hierarchy to Networks - Changes of Organizational Forms in the Nonprofit Sector and a Situational Comparsion of Selected Nonprofit Organizations and Initiatives in the City of Ostrava.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou organizovanosti neziskového sektoru. Jejím cílem je pokusit se odpovědět na otázku jaký a zda vůbec mají zvolené organizační formy reálný vliv na fungování neziskových subjektů (jejich efektivitu, dynamiku, přístup ke zdrojům apod.) a zda v tomto smyslu existuje ideální organizační struktura, případně která to je. V první části práce představuje teoretická východiska k řešení zvolené problematiky, zejména vymezení základních pojmů a popis výchozí situace včetně stručného exkurzu do historie, členění a organizovanosti občanské společnosti a neziskového sektoru. Dále přináší popis základních konceptů fungování a řízení organizací neziskového sektoru a sleduje vývoj a proměny v jeho organizačních strukturách, včetně rostoucího významů sítí. Ve druhé části jsou prezentovány výsledky sledování pěti vybraných subjektů neziskového sektoru na Ostravsku. Prostřednictvím analýzy materiálů vybraných organizací a řízených rozhovorů s jejich zástupci je na konkrétních případech ilustrován skutečný stav ve sledované oblasti, umožňující srovnání reálných dopadů zvolených způsobů řízení a organizačních forem (případně jejich změn) na fungování a efektivitu těchto vybraných subjektů při naplňování jejich cílů. Výsledky tohoto sledování ukazují, že tradiční hierarchické a centralizované uspořádání neziskových organizací se stále projevuje jako velmi efektivní, i když se objevují i nové organizační formy. Také schopnost organizací tvořit sítě má na jejich efektivitu velice významný dopad. Pro vitalitu neziskových subjektů je pak klíčová i jejich schopnost pružně reagovat na neustálé změny prostředí vhodnými změnami ve své organizační struktuře.

Abstract:

This Bachelor´s thesis deals with the issue of organization of the non-profit sector. Its´ aim is to try to answer the question if adopted organizational forms actually have an effect on a non-profit subjects´ functioning (their effectiveness, dynamics, access to resources etc.) and what the effect is. And also, if an ideal organizational structure exists and perhaps which one it is. The first part of the thesis deals with the theoretical approaches solving the chosen issues, especially the basic terminology specification, description of the starting situation including the short excursus to the history, classification and organization of the civil society and non-profit sector. It also presents the basic operational and management concepts of non-profit organizations. It pursues the development and changes in structures of a non-profit sector and traces the present tendencies, including the growing significance of networks. In the second part of the thesis the results of monitoring the selected non-profit organizations and initiatives from Ostrava and surrounding area are presented. By the means of analysing the materials of these organizations and guided interviews with their representatives, the actual situation in the followed area is described, which allows to compare the existing impacts of the chosen management styles and organizational forms (or its´ changes) on the functioning and effectiveness of the selected subjects in fulfilling their aims. The results show, that the traditional hierarchic and centralized organizational forms of non-profit organizations is still a highly effective one, even if new organizational forms tend to appear. Organizations´ ability to create networks also has a significant impact on their effectiveness. The key virtue of a non-profit sector, which also influences its´ vitality, is the ability to flexibly respond to the continual changes of their environment by adequate adjustments in their organizational structure.
