Adaptation process of the station nurse in acute care

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem "Adaptační proces staniční sestry v akutní péči". Teoretická část je strukturována do pěti hlavních kapitol, které úzce souvisí s daným tématem. Konkrétně obsahuje podrobný popis adaptačního procesu, managementu ve zdravotnictví, specifikaci akutní péče, efektivní manažerskou komunikací a v neposlední řadě vysvětlení týmové spolupráce z pohledu nadřízeného. V rámci metodiky byl zvolen kvalitativní přístup a jako výzkumná metoda byly využity polostrukturované rozhovory. Participantky byly vybrány ze zdravotnického zařízení, přičemž podmínkou ZZ bylo zachování anonymity. K analýze rozhovorů byla aplikována metoda otevřeného kódování, a to tradiční formou záznamu tužkou na papír. Některé účastnice souhlasily také s nahráváním na diktafon. Následně byly tyto nahrávky transkribovány do elektronické podoby. Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zkoumat průběh adaptačního procesu u staničních sester v akutní péči. Pro dosažení tohoto cíle byly stanoveny dílčí cíle a formulovány výzkumné otázky. Z analýzy výsledků vyplývá, že průběh adaptačního procesu není plně v souladu s platnou legislativou, a to nejen v případě zkoumaného zdravotnického zařízení. Při diskusi byly výsledky srovnány s jinými zařízeními, kde bylo dosaženo podobných závěrů. Celkem osm staničních sester bylo osloveno a výsledky ukazují, že adaptační proces oficiálně a v souladu s platnými právními předpisy absolvovaly pouze tři z nich. Adaptační proces by měl být významnou a nezbytnou součástí integrace nových zaměstnanců bez ohledu na jejich pracovní pozici. Při analýze výsledků bylo zjištěno, že realita v této oblasti není zcela odpovídající.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of "Adaptation process of department nurses in acute care". The theoretical part is structured into five main chapters, which are closely related to the given topic. Specifically, it contains a detailed description of the adaptation process, management in healthcare, the specifics of acute care, effective managerial communication, and last but not least, an explanation of teamwork from the perspective of a supervisor. Within the methodology, a qualitative approach was chosen and semi-structured interviews were used as a research method. Participants were selected from a healthcare facility, with the condition of anonymity being required. The open coding method was applied to analyze the interviews, in a traditional form of pencil-to-paper recording, while some participants also agreed to be recorded on a dictaphone. These recordings were then transcribed into electronic form. The aim of this thesis was to examine the course of the adaptation process for department nurses in acute care. To achieve this goal, specific goals were set and research questions were formulated. The analysis of the results shows that the course of the adaptation process is not fully in line with the applicable legislation, and this is not only the case in the healthcare facility under investigation. In the discussion, the results were compared with other facilities, where similar conclusions were reached. A total of eight department nurses were contacted, and the results show that only three of them officially and in accordance with the applicable legal regulations completed the adaptation process. The adaptation process should be a significant and essential part of the integration of new employees regardless of their job position. This thesis found that the reality in this area is not entirely satisfactory.
