The collapse of the Roman empire and its consequences for the further development of the Christian Church

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá příčinami rozpadu římského impéria. Na základě rozboru ekonomického, politického a náboženského vývoje říše byly ve sledovaném období 313-476 stanoveny aspekty, které vedly k postupnému úpadku Západořímské říše. Analýza ekonomického vývoje odhalila příčiny hospodářské krize. Z politického hlediska byla tetrarchie důvodem konfliktů mezi císaři a vedla k občanským válkám. Práce se dále zabývá vlivem rozhodnutí císařů na dějinný vývoj říše a srovnáním vývoje v obou částech impéria po jeho rozdělení v r. 395. Z hlediska náboženského vývoje se ukázalo, že nejednotnost křesťanského učení vedla ke vzniku názorových sporů a různých herezí. Ekonomická krize, občanské války, nájezdy barbarských kmenů a náboženské spory měly za následek rozpad západní části říše. Východní část zůstala z důvodu výhodnější geografické polohy ušetřena nájezdů barbarů a byla natolik ekonomicky silná, že mohla nastoupit cestu k větší prosperitě. Propojením státní a církevní moci došlo k vytvoření cézaropapismu.

Abstract:

This work deals with the causes of disintegration the Roman Empire. Based on the analysis of economic, political and religious development of empire were in the period from 313 to 476 set out the aspects that led to the gradual decline of the Western Roman Empire. Analysis of the economic development revealed the causes of the economic crisis. From a political perspective was the tetrarchy cause of conflicts between the Emperors and led to civil wars. The paper further focuses on the influence emperors decisions in the historical development of empire and comparing the evolution in both parts of the empire after its division in the 395th year. In the terms of religious development has shown that inconsistencies in Christian religion has led to the emergence of ideological disputes and different heresies. The economic crisis, civil wars, invasions of barbarian tribes and religious disputes have resulted in disintegration of the western part of the empire. The eastern part of the empire was spared, due to favorable geographic position, from the barbarian raids and were so economically powerful that it could pave the way to greater prosperity. Interconnection between state and church was able to create caesaropapism.
