The influence of compost, composted biochar and mineral nitrogen on plant growth

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá vlivem aplikace kompostu, kompostovaného biouhlu a minerálního dusíku na růst rostlin. V teoretické části byl podrobně popsán rozbor všech aditiv a jejich možný vliv na růst rostlin. Hlavní náplní praktické práce bylo vyhodnocení množství nadzemní a podzemní biomasy modelových rostlin a došlo k ověření, zdali ke stimulaci růstu modelových rostlin nedošlo na úkor ztráty klíčové živiny (dusíku). Tato skutečnost byla ověřena pomocí ionexových disků uložených pod nádobami, kde bylo sledováno vyplavené množství amonného a dusičnanového dusíku. Pro nádobový experiment byla zvolena modelová rostlina – hlávkového salátu. Všechny použité varianty půd s přídavkem byly odebrány na polích z experimentální lokality Březová nad Svitavou, kde byla aditiva několik let přidávána do půdy. Získaná data byla statisticky vyhodnocena a porovnána s dostupnými prameny. Závěrem vyplývá, že nejvyšší výnos nadzemní hmotnostní sušinu biomasy vyprodukovala varianta minerálního dusíku. Ovšem množství obou forem vyplaveného dusíku měla tato varianta nejvyšší. Lze konstatovat, že pomocí minerálních hnojiv je lehké dosažení zlepšeného výnosu nadzemní biomasy, ale na úkor degradující půdy. Budoucí perspektiva je v aplikaci většího množství kompostu či kompostovaného biouhlu na ornou půdu.

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis discusses the impact of compost, composted biochar, and mineral nitrogen on plant growth. The theoretical part describes in detail the analysis of all additives and their possible effect on plant growth. The main task of the practical work was to evaluate the amount of above-ground and underground biomass of model plants and to test whether the stimulation of the growth of model plants would cause the loss of key nutrients (nitrogen). This fact was tested using ion-exchange disks placed under the vessels, where the leached amount of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen was monitored. A model plant – lettuce – was chosen for the pot experiment. All soil vari-ants and additives were taken in the fields from the experiment site in Březová nad Svi-tavou, where the additives were put into to the soil for several years. The obtained data were statistically evaluated and compared with available sources. In conclusion, the highest yield of above-ground dry weight of biomass was produ-ced by the mineral nitrogen variant. In contrast, the amount of both forms of leached nitrogen had the highest variant. Therefore, mineral fertilizers produce an improved yield of above-ground biomass, but at the expense of weaker soil. Looking forward, the application of more compost or composted biochar to arable land should be tested.
