French Language in Rap Music and Culture

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the use of the French language in rap music texts. The aim is to acquaint the reader with what rap (and hip-hop culture) is and what values it holds. Furthermore, how rap music got to France and how it was received there, especially the younger generation. Subsequently, it will be explained what topics rap music deals with and whether, or how, since the arrival of rap in France, the topics in rap lyrics have changed. The last part contains a summary of the main lexicological phenomena used in French rap music with subsequent analysis of original French rap lyrics. The thesis demonstrates that even such a new musical genre, such as rap, can directly or indirectly contribute to the development of language and enrich it with certain lexemas, including the reasons why, when and how they are used. The main focus is on the influence of the speech of the young generation in France.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá využitím francouzského jazyka v textech rapové hudby. Cílem je seznámit čtenáře s tím, co rap (a kultura hip-hop) je a jaké zastává hodnoty. Dále jak se rapová hudba dostala do Francie a jakým způsobem tam byla přijatá, hlavně tedy mladší generací. Následně bude vysvětleno, jakými tématům se rapová hudba věnuje a jestli, případně jak, se od příchodu rapu do Francie témata v rapových textech změnila. Poslední část obsahuje shrnutí hlavních lexikologických jevů, které se ve francouzské rapové hudbě používají s následnou analýzou originálních francouzských rapových textů. Práce prokazuje, že i takto nový hudební žánr, jako je rap, může přímo či nepřímo přispět k vývoji jazyka a obohatit ho o jisté lexémy, včetně důvodů, proč, kdy a jak se využívají. Hlavní důraz je kladen na vliv mluvy mladé generace ve Francii.
