Differences in the perception of the European Union by Polish leaders of the ruling Law and Justice party and the Polish public in 2015-2022

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá rozdíly vnímání Evropské unie polskou veřejností a představiteli polské vládní strany Právo a spravedlnost. Tyto rozdíly jsou zjišťovány pomocí politické diskurzivní analýzy vyjádření polských politiků Práva a spravedlnosti a jeho srovnáním s analýzou průzkumů polského veřejného mínění. Pro účely této práce bylo vybráno období mezi lety 2015 až 2022, jelikož se jedná o období, ve kterém byla Právo a spravedlnost vládní stranou. Teoretická část se věnuje tvorbě veřejné sféry, ve které se utváří i veřejné mínění. Dále je zde nastíněna problematika europeizace veřejné sféry a také euroskepticismu, jehož prvky byly hledány v projevech představitelů strany Právo a spravedlnost a v mínění polské veřejnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the differences in the perception of the European Union by the Polish public and representatives of the Polish ruling party Law and Justice. These differences are identified through a political discourse analysis of statements made by Polish politicians of Law and Justice and its comparison with the analysis of Polish opinion polls. For the purposes of this paper, the period between 2015 and 2022 was chosen, as this is the period in which Law and Justice was the ruling party. The theoretical part deals with the formation of the public sphere, in which public opinion is also formed. Furthermore, it outlines the issue of Europeanisation of the public sphere as well as Euroscepticism, elements of which were sought in the speeches of Law and Justice party representatives and in the opinion of the Polish public.
