Táto práca slúži ako pilotná štúdia pre ďalší výskum. Vychádza z hypotézy o uvedomelosti rodených Angličanov o rozdieloch vo výslovnosti medzi ich rodeným prízvukom a štandardnou anglickou výslovnosťou. Ako podklad pre tento výskum slúžil akcent charakteristický pre mesto Birmingham. Práca je rozdelená na dve hlavné časti: teoretickú a praktickú.
