Research on working from home and the use of information technology

Abstract:

Práce z domova je velkým fenoménem posledních let. Od doby pandemie COVIDU-19, kdy bylo mnoho podniků nuceno přejít na práci distančním způsobem, se z ní stala běžná praxe. Tato práce se zabývá prací z domova a jejím vztahem k informačním technologiím, které se při ní používají, a to především softwarem sloužícím ke komunikaci při této formě práce. V praktické části práce je proveden kvantitativní výzkum pomocí dotazníkového šetření. Cílem jak výzkumu, tak i práce samotné je zanalyzovat aktuální situaci týkající se práce z domova, způsoby a přístupy k pracovní komunikaci a užití IT pro podporu kolaborativní práce, hlavními cíli práce je vyhodnocení čtyř hypotéz a zodpovězení dvou výzkumných otázek. Hypotézy jsou vyhodnoceny pomocí chí kvadrát testu dobré shody a jejich výsledky jsou ve většině případů porovnány s výsledky dříve proběhnuvších výzkumů, které byly uskutečněny na odlišném vzorku respondentů, v jiné době a v jiných kulturních podmínkách a které se zabývaly obdobnými hypotézami. Jedinou hypotézou, která je v rámci práce potvrzena, je hypotéza tvrdící, že zaměstnanci v sektoru IT preferují práci z domova více než zaměstnanci pracující v jiných odvětvích. Programy používané ke komunikaci a jejich využívaná funkcionalita se napříč respondenty liší, nejsou však nalezeny žádné znaky, které by poukazovaly na to, že pohled zaměstnanců na práci z domova výrazně ovlivňuje pravidelně využívaná funkcionalita softwaru ke komunikaci.

Abstract:

Working from home is a big phenomenon in recent years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, when many businesses have been forced to switch to working remotely, it has become a common practice. This thesis is about work from home and its relationship with the information technologies used to facilitate it, primarily software used for communication in the remote workplace. In the practical part of the work, quantitative research is carried out using a questionnaire survey. The goal of both the research and the thesis itself is to analyze the current situation regarding working from home, ways and approaches to work communication and the use of IT to support collaborative work, the main goals of the thesis are to evaluate four hypotheses and answer two research questions. Hypotheses are evaluated using the chi square goodness of fit test, and their results are in most cases compared with the results of previous research that was conducted on a different sample of respondents, at a different time and in different cultural conditions, and which dealt with similar hypotheses. The only hypothesis that is confirmed in the work is the hypothesis that employees in the IT sector prefer working from home more than employees working in other industries. The programs used for communication and their used functionality differ across respondents, however, no significant signs were found that would indicate that the employees' view of working from home is significantly influenced by the regularly used functionality of the software for communication.
