Intercultural Differences in a Selected Company

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem interkulturních rozdílů ve společnosti Škoda Auto a. s. Téma práce bylo úzce vyměřeno na kulturní rozdíly mezi Čechy a Němci, které vznikají ve vztahu vedoucí – podřízený. Cílem bylo zjistit, zda kulturní odlišnosti mezi Čechy a Němci způsobují problémy v dané společnosti a pro zjištěné problémy navrhnout řešení. V první části práce byla vymezena teoretická východiska pro primární výzkum (především definování kultury, kulturních výzkumů a problematika interkulturního managementu). Primární výzkum, který je součástí druhé části práce, probíhal na oddělení nákupu a k jeho vyhodnocení bylo využito dotazníkové šetření a strukturovaný rozhovor se zaměstnancem společnosti. Hlavním závěrem, který z výsledků vyplynul, bylo, že zaměstnanci by měli být v problematice interkulturního managementu více vzděláváni, i když konflikty na oddělení nákupu nevznikají příliš často. Mezi doporučení byly zařazeny návrhy na implementaci vzdělávání zaměstnanců v oblasti kultury jako je samostudium, trénink založený na znalostech a trénink založený na zkušenostech. Díky opatřením a doplňujícím informacím uvedeným v práci by se měli současní, ale i budoucí zaměstnanci společnosti Škoda Auto a. s. lépe orientovat v kulturně rozmanitém prostředí.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of intercultural differences in the company Škoda Auto a. s. The topic of the work closely focused on the cultural differences between the Czech and the German employees, which arise in a manager-subordinate relationship. The aim was to find out whether the cultural differences between the Czechs and the Germans cause problems in the given company and to propose solutions for the identified problems. The first part of the thesis provided a theoretical basis for primary research (especially the definition of culture, cultural research and issues of intercultural management). The primary research, which belongs to the second part of the work, took place at the Procurement department. A questionnaire survey and a structured interview were used to evaluate the research questions. The main conclusion that can be drawn from the results was that employees should be more educated in the area of intercultural management, although conflicts in the Procurement department do not arise very often. Recommendations included proposals for the implementation of cultural training of employees, such as self-study, knowledge-based training and experience-based training. Thanks to the measures and information provided in the thesis, current and future Škoda Auto a. s. employees should be better informed about a culturally diverse environment.
