European automotive industry in a global context

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce je zaměřená na téma evropského automobilového průmyslu v kontextu globálních trendů, které ho mění. Cílem práce bylo analyzovat trendy průmyslu a reakce výrobců a tím předpovědět budoucnost průmyslu, který již druhé století mění svět. Práce využívá metody analýzy, deskripce a komparace. V první kapitole byl představen vývoj automobilového průmyslu od luxusu k masové mobilitě, tlak na snižování nákladů a zvyšování rozmanitosti výroby a vysvětlena byla i důležitost automobilového průmyslu pro evropský kontinent. V druhé kapitole byla analyzována výroba v Evropě, a hlavně důležité světové trhy pro evropské značky mimo domácí kontinent, kterým je hlavně Čína, která je největším trhem a další asijské regiony, nebo severní Amerika. Po nalezení hlavních trendů poskytla třetí kapitola jejich důkladnou analýzu, která nabídla předpověď nárůstu sdílených služeb na úkor vlastnictví automobilů, nástupu elektrických automobilů, zvyšující se poměr konektivity a autonomní řízení. Hlavní dva trendy: elektrifikace a autonomní vozidla byly řešeny společně s čínským trhem v případové studii evropského tradičního výrobce automobilů Daimler a technologického vyzyvatele Tesla. Evropské automobilové značky musí transformovat svůj byznys model pro novou éru elektrických autonomních automobilů, které již nebudou ve formě produktu, ale služby. Aby přežily v konkurenci, jak ze západu, tak z východu, ale také z řad technologických firem, je důraz na inovace důležitý více než kdy jindy.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on the topic of the European automotive industry in the context of global trends that change it. The aim of the thesis was to analyze industry trends and producers' reactions and thus to predict the future of the industry that has changed the world for the second century. The thesis uses methods of analysis, description and comparison. The first chapter introduced the development of the automotive industry from luxury to mass mobility, the pressure to reduce costs and increase the diversity of production, and the importance of the automotive industry to the European continent. In the second chapter, production in Europe was analyzed, and mainly important global markets for European brands outside the home continent, which is mainly China, the largest market and other Asian regions, or North America. After finding the main trends, the third chapter provided a thorough analysis that offered a prediction of the growth of shared services to the detriment of car ownership, the rise of electric cars, increased connectivity and autonomous control. The two main trends: electrification and autonomous vehicles have been dealt with together with the Chinese market in a case study about Daimler, European traditional car manufacturers and Tesla, a technology developer. European automobile brands must transform their business model into a new era of electric autonomous cars that will no longer be in the form of products but services. In order to survive in competition, both from the West and the East, but also from the technology companies, the emphasis on innovation is more important than ever.
