Maternal Attention Divided Between Her Child and Other Activities in the Context of the Attachment Theory

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Dělená pozornost matky mezi dítětem a jinými činnostmi v kontextu citové vazby“ se zaměřuje na kvalitativní analýzu videozáznamů interakcí matky a dítěte během situace vyplňování dotazníku. Cílem práce je za pomoci metody nezúčastněného pozorování vytvořit pozorovací schéma, které zachytí rozdíly v chování matek během chvil, kdy dělí svoji pozornost mezi svůj úkol a činnost dítěte. To se projevuje ve způsobu zabavování dítěte a komunikace s ním, na kterou toto schéma cílí. Výzkumný soubor tvoří 21 dvojic matek a jejich dětí (N = 21; průměrný věk dětí = 14,5 měsíců; SD = 1,24). Práce je zasazena do kontextu teorie citové vazby, a v souvislosti s tím také na popis chování matky při každodenních interakcích s dítětem. Zastoupení jednotlivých typů citové vazby dítěte je ve vzorku vyrovnané (jistá, vyhýbavá a úzkostná vazba, N = 7). Pozorovací schéma obsahuje celkem 6 kategorií, které zahrnují takové aspekty chování matky, jež mohou vypovídat o rozdílech v komunikaci matky s dítětem během chvil dělené pozornosti matky. Každou kategorii tvoří několik dílčích kódů, které jsou v některých případech konkrétněji rozčleněny na subkódy. V celém schématu se tak dohromady objevuje 24 kódů a 31 subkódů.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis "Maternal Attention Divided Between Her Child and Other Activities in the Context of the Attachment Theory" focuses on a qualitative analysis of video recordings of mother-child interactions during a questionnaire-filling situation. The aim of the study is to create a coding system using the non-participant observation method that captures differences in maternal behaviour during moments when mothers divide their attention between their task and the child's activity. This is reflected in the way how mothers engage and communicate with their child, which is the focus of this scheme. The research sample consists of 21 pairs of mothers and their children (N = 21; mean age of children = 14.5 months; SD = 1.24). The thesis is situated within the context of attachment theory and, in relation to that, describes the behaviour of mothers during everyday interactions with their child. The representation of different types of child attachment within the sample is balanced (secure, avoidant, and anxious attachment, N = 7). The observation scheme comprises of 6 categories in total, that encompass aspects of maternal behaviour that may indicate differences in mother-child communication during moments of divided maternal attention. Each category consists of several codes, which, in some cases, are further broken down into subcodes. The entire scheme thus includes 24 codes and 21 subcodes.
