Impact of the 2009 and 2020 crises on the service sector in the European Union

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá porovnáním dopadů krizí 2009 a 2020 na sektor služeb v Evropské unii pomocí porovnání meziročních změn v exportu a importu jednotlivých kategorií služeb. Hlavním cílem této práce je určit a porovnat dopad krize 2009 a 2020 na sektor služeb ve státech Evropské Unie. Současně je práce zaměřena na odhalení a popsání výši dopadů krizí na kategorie služeb v EU a na určení nejvíce zasažených kategorií služeb a států EU. V první kapitole je vysvětleno dvanáct kategorií služeb dle EBOPS 2010, které jsou později sloučeny do hlavních čtyř kategorií dle UNCTAD. Dále práce uvádí regulace sektoru služeb pomocí indikátorů OECD a indexu přísnosti. V druhé kapitole je uveden význam služeb pro státy EU pomocí obchodu se službami (v % HDP) a zaměstnanosti ve službách (v % celkové zaměstnanosti). Následně je v poslední části uvedena analýza, která porovnává meziroční změny 2008/09 a 2019/20 v jednotlivých hlavních kategorií služeb.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of the impacts of the 2009 and 2020 crises on the service sector in the European Union by comparing year-on-year changes in exports and imports of individual categories of services. The main goal of this work is to determine and compare the impact of the crisis of 2009 and 2020 on the service sector in the European Union. At the same time, the work is focused on identifying and describing the impact of crises on categories of services in the EU and on identifying the most affected categories of services and EU countries. The first chapter explains the twelve categories of services according to EBOPS 2010, which are later merged into the main four categories according to UNCTAD. Furthermore, the work presents the regulation of the services sector using OECD indicators and the stringency index. The second chapter presents the importance of services for EU countries through trade in services (in % of GDP) and employment in services (in % of total employment). Subsequently, the last part presents an analysis that compares the year-on-year changes in 2008/09 and 2019/20 in the individual main categories of services.
