New approaches to the synthesis of chiral glycolurils

Abstract:

Glykoluril je bicyklická molekula, která je základem mnoha supramolekulárních struktur. V naší skupině se zabýváme syntézou a vlastnostmi bambusurilů, makrocyklických molekul tvořených 2,4-disubstituovanými glykolurily. Nesymetricky substituované glykolurily jsou připravovány jako směs dvou stereoisomerů, jejichž separace je obvykle komplikovaná. Cílem této práce bylo navrhnout univerzální postup, který by umožňoval relativně jednoduchou a rychlou přípravu různých enantiomerně čistých 2,4-disubstituovaných glykolurilů. Tyto glykolurily by byly poté využity k syntéze nových bambusurilů.

Abstract:

Glycoluril is a bicyclic molecule, which is a building block for many supramolecular structures. Our group focuses on the synthesis and examination of the properties of bambusurils, macrocyclic molecules composed of 2,4-disubstituted glycolurils. Asymmetric glycolurils are obtained as a mixture of stereoisomers, whose separation is often challenging. The aim of this thesis was to develop a universal strategy, which would allow for a simple and rapid synthesis of various enantiomerically pure 2,4-disubstituted glycolurils. These glycolurils would be then used for the synthesis of novel bambusurils.
