Pathways to Recovery. Work of Peer Trainers in Mental Health

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá otázkou zapojování uživatelů psychiatrické péče do vzdělávání v oblasti péče o duševní zdraví. Ústředním tématem práce jsou peer lektoři, kteří využívají svou zkušenost se službami a se zotavováním při profesní přípravě budoucích pracovníků v oblasti péče o duševní zdraví a při dalším profesním vzdělávání těchto profesionálů. Práce je rozdělena na část teoretickou a empirickou. V teoretické části práce se zaměřuji na vymezení problematiky peer pracovníků a dále se zabývám specificky pracovními pozicemi peer lektorů v oblasti duševního zdraví a na to, jak jsou tito uživatelé zapojováni do aktivit v České republice. Následně se věnuji tématu zotavení jako významnému konceptu v práci peer pracovníků, kde popisuji tři základní principy zotavení, od kterých se odvíjí podoba výzkumných otázek této práce. Empirická část práce si klade za cíl využít kvalitativní metodologie a analyzovat, jak jsou v práci peer lektorů naplňovány klíčové principy zotavení.

Abstract:

The Master’s thesis is concerned with involvement of psychiatric service users in education in mental health care. The central theme of the thesis are peer trainers who draw from their experience with the services and with recovery in order to prepare students in mental health care for their work and to advance education of more senior professionals in the same area. The thesis consists of two parts – theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part, I focus on defining key concepts underlying work of peer trainers, I analyse specific work positions of peer trainers in mental health, and I explore how peer trainers are involved in such services in the Czech Republic. I also focus on the theme of recovery, as it is an important concept for the work of peer trainers, where I describe three fundamental principles of recovery that are related to the research questions of this thesis. The empirical part aims to use qualitative methodology and analyse how the principles of recovery are fulfilled in the work of peer trainers.
