Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Nekonvenčnost v románu Hodiny podle Michaela Cunninghama se zabývá třemi obdobími 20. století, kde Cunningham popisuje životní dráhu tří různých žen pocházejících z rozdílného prostředí. Prostřednictvím těchto postav autor popisuje jednotlivá období, životní podmínky a úroveň společnosti, zejména však postavení žen. Dvacáté století, zvláště popsaná údobí, je proslulé svými změnami týkajícími se převážně ženských otázek. Tyto proměny zahrnují psychologickou stránku ženské osobnosti a její postavení ve společnosti. Ve své práci jsem se soustředila především na vnímání ženy z hlediska její sexuální orientace. Pro lepší pochopení situací a jednotlivých postav je nutné seznámit se s historií, která předcházela vzniku současné nezávislosti a svobody žen. Přesto jsou stále oblasti, které by se daly změnit. Všechny tři hlavní postavy mohou být považovány za poměrně provokativní ve své době. Cílem této práce je tedy indikovat jejich nekonvenčnost, a to zejména v rámci jejich vztahů a její následný dopad na život.

Abstract:

The thesis "Unconventionality in the novel The Hours by Michael Cunningham" deals with the three periods of twentieth century where Cunnigham portrays life’s path of three different women coming from a distinct background. Throughout these characters the author describes particular periods and life status of people, especially females. The twentieth century, primarily the described eras, is known as rich in all sorts of changes concerning women. These transformations include especially psychological elements of woman’s personality and her social conditions. I concentrate primarily on perception of woman in light of her sexual orientation. For better understanding the situations and particular characters, we have to get acquainted with the history which predates present independence and freedom for females. Yet there are still some areas that could be improved. All three main characters could be regarded as quite provocative in their period. The aim of the thesis is to indicate their unconventionality especially in terms of their relationships and its subsequent impact upon their lives.
