Strategies for Managing and Succession Planning in a Family and a Non - Family Business

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na současnou problematiku strategického plánování a řízení nástupnictví v rodinných podnicích. Vezmeme-li v potaz narůstající počet rodinných podniků nejen v České republice, ale i ve světě, je dané problematice rodinného podnikání u nás stále věnována malá pozornost, přestože rodinné podniky tvoří podstatnou část hrubého domácího produktu. První část diplomové práce se věnuje samotnému vymezení rodinného podnikání. Další část mapuje historický vývoj rodinných podniku nejprve ve světě, následně v ČR. Další část teoretických východisek je věnována problematice strategického řízení a plánování nástupnictví v rodinných podnicích, které slouží k udržení tradice rodinného podnikání i pro další generace. Předmětem srovnání je též tématika řízení a plánování nástupnictví v nerodinných společnostech, jejímž účelem je získání kompetentních zaměstnanců pro jejich dosazení do klíčových pozic vrcholového managementu. V aplikační části diplomové práce jsou postupně analyzovány přístupy a procesy plánování a řízení nástupnictví nejprve v rodinném podniku, poté ve společnosti nerodinné povahy. Na základě zjištěných poznatků je provedena komparace obou přístupů a rodinnému podniku jsou doporučeny další kroky k úspěšně mezigenerační obměně.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the up-to-date issue of strategic planning and management of family businesses’ succession. Taking into account the increasing number of family businesses in the Czech Republic but also in the world, we can claim that the issue of family businesses receives considerably little attention, even though family businesses account for a significant amount of the gross domestic product. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the definition of the family business; the work further describes the historical development of the family business in worldwide as well as in the Czech Republic. Another part of the theoretical background is devoted to strategic management and succession planning in family businesses, which serves to maintaining the tradition of a family business for generations. The object of comparison is also the theme of management and succession planning in non-family companies whose purpose is to obtain competent staff for key senior management positions. In the practical part of the thesis, approaches and processes of planning and management succession are analyzed, firstly in family and later in non-family businesses. Based on the findings, a comparison of the two approaches is made. Recommendations are provided for the family business about steps for a successful intergenerational replacement.
