ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF HEALTH PROMOTION

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je poukázat na ekonomické aspekty podpory a prevence zdraví jako investice do zdraví. Teoretická část vychází z konceptů ekonomů, kteří se zabývali lidským kapitálem a investicemi do lidského kapitálu zdraví. Se zaměřením na problematiku zvyšujících se nákladů ve zdravotnictví v kontextu demografických změn v ČR je provedena analýza některých programů podpory zdraví, které usilují o prosazení zdravého životního stylu v populaci. Jako příklad jak může mít prevence zdraví pozitivní vliv na snížení nákladů ve zdravotnictví je v empirické části strukturován model závislosti mezi obezitou a diabetem 2. typu. Předpokládaná pozitivní korelace mezi růstem počtu lidí s obezitou a růstem počtu lidí s diabetem 2. typu je zjišťována na reálných datech v podobě časové řady v podmínkách ČR. Pomocí Cochrane-Orcuttovy transformace lineárního regresního modelu je tato pozitivní závislost prokázána pro muže, ženy i pro celkovou populaci ve věku nad 15 let. V závěru práce je provedena kvantifikace snížení nákladů na zdravotní péči jako důsledek prevence obezity.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to point out the economical aspects of health promotion and prevention as an investment in health. The teoretical part is based on concepts of economists, who dealt with human capital and investment in health. Because of problems with rising costs in health care and demographic changes in Czech Republic, there is an analysis of health promotion programs, which enforce healthy lifestyle in population. Health prevention can have a positive effect on reducing costs in health care. To demonstrate this effect, the model of relationship between obesity and diabetes type 2 is created. The positive correlation between rising of number of people with obesity and rising of number of people with diabetes type 2 is detected on the set of time series data for Czech Republic. The positive correlation is proved for men, women and the entire Czech population aged 15 years and over with Cochrane-Orcutt estimation. The quantification of the cost reduction in health care because of health prevention is made in the conclusion.
