Intercultural communication: Expressing solidarity in political interviews

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is a linguistic analysis of political interviews regarding the expressions of solidarity. The interviews have been transcribed into a written form. The Critical discourse analysis, as proposed by Norman Fairclough, has been used to perform the analysis. An imperative part of the analysis has been the comparison of certain language phenomena, e.g. referential devices, as well as the comparison of various types of solidarity. The analysis has been done on a corpus, that was put together based on these criteria: it includes interviews with both Czech and British politicians and they share a common topic - the immigration crisis. By the means of the analysis, the following conclusions have been reached: The British politician's speech was more consistent and balanced in terms of the researched phenomena, however less focused on the refugees. Whereas the speeches of the Czech politicians have been more diverse in terms of the researched phenomena, and more focused on the refugees.

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je lingvistická analýza politických rozhovorů, na téma vyjadřování solidarity, přepsaných do textové podoby. K provedení této analýzy je použitá kritická srovnávací analýza, jak ji navrhl Norman Fairclough. Součástí analýzy je porovnání různých jazykových jevů a referenčních zájmen v textu, stejně jako porovnávání různých druhů solidarity. Analýza je provedena na korpusu, který byl sestaven na základě těchto kritérií: vyskytují se v něm politici jak z České republiky, tak z Velké Británie. Společným tématem všech rozhovorů je uprchlická krize. Analýzou jsme dospěli k závěru, že přednes britského politika je konzistentnější a vyrovnanější, co se počtu zkoumaných jevů týče, ale méně zaměřený na uprchlíky samotné. Přednes českých politiků je co do počtu zkoumaných jevů mnohem rozmanitější, a více zaměřený na uprchlíky.
